Serving the continuing growth of Cairns’ northern beaches, a new Catholic secondary college designed by TPG Architects is now complete and hosted at James Cook University’s Smithfield campus ahead of its proposed opening, unimaginably achieved in an 11-month construction phase.

The proximity of JCU and the new school will facilitate exciting partnerships such as teacher training opportunities, educational research and transition for secondary students into tertiary education.

Containing five design technology classrooms, four science labs, a library, administration area, and an indoor PE court.

Newman Catholic College is the first Catholic Secondary school to be co-located within an Australian university Facilities will include a multipurpose hall on the second level and a rooftop science precinct. A pedestrian concourse on the first level will open into a large vertical common overlooking the nearby rainforest and Atika Creek at the northernmost boundary of JCU’s campus.
