The owner of no. 2 James Street, being a major engineering fi rm, property and building services consultant demanded a simple, maintenance free, energy efficient structure with an equality of “front door” for themselves and other tenants and easy access to covered parking. The site forms a gateway structure to this North Cairns precinct. The building itself is elongated on the long site resting on slender concrete columns creating an association to
neighbouring highset Queenslanders, many of which have been converted to professional offices on the edge of the Cairns CBD.
The building in this way becomes a contemporary interpretation of the iconic Queenslander style of building.
